Remind Your Patients to Do Homework before Enrolling in Medicare

Date: 1 Dec 2011

Medicare open enrollment is currently underway, so now is the best time to remind your patients before they enroll in a Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan that Medicare Advantage plans do not cover everything and may include substantial out-of-pocket expenses.

Patients need to do their homework before selecting a plan so that they are aware of all possible premiums, copays, coinsurance, and deductibles, and so they choose a plan that best meets their health care needs.

To save you time and help reinforce this message, the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) has created a one-page flyer you can print and distribute when you talk to your Medicare-eligible patients. It simply reminds them to find out about a plan before they enroll, and points them to assistance and resources.
