Ann L. McGaffey, MD

RALPH C. WILDE LEADERSHIP AWARD – Recognizes a physician who demonstrates exceptional skill in clinical care of patients and dedication to the ideals of the medical profession as teacher or profession leader.
Stanley M. Marks, MD

PHYSICIAN VOLUNTEER AWARD – Recognizes a physician for the donation of their time or talents for charitable, clinical, educational or community service activities, domestically or internationally.
Jan W. Madison, MD

RICHARD E. DEITRICK HUMANITY IN MEDICINE AWARD – Honors a physician who has improved the lives of patients by caring for them with integrity, honesty, and respect of their human dignity, and serves as a role model for other physicians.
Thomas B. Julian, MD

BENJAMIN RUSH INDIVIDUAL AWARD – Recognizes an individual who devotes time, skills, or resources to assisting others and contributes to the advancement of healthcare (not a physician).
Bill Strickland, Jr.

BENJAMIN RUSH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION AWARD – Recognizes a company, institution, organization, or agency that is successfully addressing a community health issue (not a hospital or care facility).
Global Links

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP AWARD – Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and advocacy for physicians. Over a sustained time, the recipient shall have displayed administrative guidance and support to physicians to improve their ability to improve the lives and health of the people of our community.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society’s Physician 40 Under 40 competition is open to any Pennsylvania Medical Society member under the age of 40 who is a high achiever as they work to advance medicine or their community either through employment or volunteer work.

Phillip Carullo, MD

Dr. Carullo is a resident at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Anesthesiology. While still in medical school, he was awarded for his research on death certificate completion. Dr. Carullo has received grants to develop and patent a medical device to prevent aspirated products from entering the lungs during intubation. In 2018, he organized a “Medical Providers Against Opioid Addiction” fundraiser that raised more than $8,000 for the Pittsburgh Light of Life Mission.



Jennifer Corbelli, MD

Dr. Corbelli is an internist with UPMC Montefiore and associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She also serves as program director for the University of Pittsburgh’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. She leads her program’s resident recruitment process and, in her first year as program director, was responsible for the best match in the program’s history. Through her work with medical students, she mentors individuals interested in primary care for underserved populations.



Maria K. Guyette, MD

Dr. Koenig Guyette is the chief of emergency medicine services for UPMC Shadyside and assistant professor of emergency medicine for the University of Pittsburgh. She recently served as president of the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians, where she proved herself to be a strong advocate on behalf of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable patients. She has been involved with patient-focused initiatives on issues like appropriate opioid prescribing for ED patients and bystander CPR training for middle- and high-school students.



Amanda M. Michael, DO

A physician with Pittsburgh Infectious Diseases, Ltd., Dr. Michael is an “antimicrobial steward” who looks to promote coordinated interventions designed to improve and measure the appropriate use of antimicrobials at the hospitals she attends as well as outpatient settings. She has special interests in the treatment of HIV and hepatitis C and the administration of adult vaccines for vaccine-preventable diseases. She serves as chair of the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee at St. Clair Hospital.



Mark A. Woodburn, MD

Dr. Woodburn is a family medicine physician with Genesis Medical Associates, Inc. He provides outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing care. Dr. Wood;burn has become a leader in his organization, serving on the Board of Directors. He played an instrumental role in helping Genesis Medical Associates develop an Accountable Care Organization and high quality standards recognized by most insurance quality programs.
