ACMS Foundation Gala

Richard E. Deitrick Humanity in Medicine Award – Honors a physician who has improved the lives of patients by caring for them with integrity, honesty, and respect of their human dignity, and serves as a role model for other physicians.

Alfred P. Doyle, MD

Alfred P. Doyle, MD, who specializes in Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine, graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency at New York University. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and eventually was stationed at the VA Hospital in Aspinwall, PA. He then moved to Sewickley, where he began practice in Internal Medicine. He completed his specialty boards in Hematology and Oncology in the early 1970s and has continued to practice in those specialties for nearly 50 years. Dr. Doyle is currently affiliated with the UPMC Cancer Center at Moon.

In a nomination form submitted by Norm Mitry, President/CEO of Heritage Valley Health System, Dr. Doyle is described as a dedicated, compassionate practitioner who places his patients’ needs first. His histories and physicals are the “stuff of legend.” Patients frequently praise how methodical and through his evaluations are. His colleagues universally laud him as a keen intellect who continually studied to stay abreast of the latest and best therapies. He is known as the “physician’s physician,” called upon by his peers to help solve medical mysteries.

Dr. Doyle’s son, Tom Doyle, MD, Emergency Physician at Heritage Valley Sewickley, has been told “if you are half as good as he is, you must be terrific,” and says that although he may be biased, a poll of local physicians would show Dr. Alfred Doyle at the top of the list of those deserving awards and recognition.
