ACMS Foundation invites you to our first Virtual Gala!
The Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation will hold its annual Gala fundraiser on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 7p.m. This virtual gala will convene ACMS members and supporters to honor excellence among their peers and raise funds for a very special purpose: supporting the development of a comprehensive treatment and prevention program for children with asthma in the Mon Valley region of southwestern Pennsylvania. This asthma program will include the establishment of local asthma clinics.
Cameron Heyward, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end and philanthropist, is the featured celebrity guest; Heyward will speak about his experiences as a child with asthma, its effects on his life today, and his humanitarian work. Deborah Gentile, MD, local pediatric allergy and asthma specialist, and her patients will share their experiences and describe the impact of asthma in their lives.
ACMSF will honor physicians and community leaders including its 50-year awardees, a distinguished group of physicians who have dedicated their lives to the practice of medicine. Physicians ranking as the best “40 Under 40” in 2020 and 2021 will also be honored.
The annual Gala brings us together as a community, even when virtual gathering is necessary. Please join us for an evening of moving presentations and a chance to see your colleagues and friends receive prestigious, well-deserved honors.
Instituted in 1960, ACMS started the Foundation with donations from the polio immunization program. The immunization effort was undertaken by ACMS and the Allegheny County Health Department, and sparked a public outpouring of donations collected in jars on the streets of Pittsburgh.
The Foundation has since given $2.26 million back to the community.
While so much has changed since that early start, so much remains the same for those the ACMS Foundation seeks to serve. Zeroing in on core issues the Foundation could potentially impact, the ACMS Foundation, not surprisingly, found that an increasing number of health issues affecting families and their communities arise from their home environments.
