SUMMARY:The Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society 59th Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The program is open to Ophthalmologists who are members of the 
 POS and we invite Ophthalmologists who are non-members.\n\nIntent and Over
 view\n\nMore efficient detection and treatment of ophthalmic conditions an
 d diseases are constantly being discovered and acted upon. This program is
  based upon the need to apprise local physicians of the diagnostic modalit
 ies and treatments being utilized at teaching centers and ophthalmologic o
 ffices across the country.\n\nMeeting Objectives\n\nThis course will highl
 ight the recent developments regarding diagnosis as well as medical and su
 rgical therapy of common eye diseases. The participant should get a compre
 hensive review of the most current concepts in the management of ophthalmo
 logy by experts across the breadth of the field. For example\, clinical tr
 ials and other evidence in the peer-reviewed literature over the past few 
 years have changed the approach to managing cataract including IOL technol
 ogy and femtosecond laser cataract surgery\, corneal disease including dry
  eye disease\, keratoplasty\, and collagen cross linking\, glaucoma and mi
 nimally invasive glaucoma surgical devices\, as well as diabetic retinopat
 hy\, macular degeneration\, and retinal vein occlusions. This course also 
 includes legislative updates as it pertains to Ophthalmologists and their 
 practice. At the conclusion of this meeting\, participants should be able 
 to\n\n 	Update their knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of common and ra
 re ophthalmic diseases.\n 	Identify major advances in key areas of cutting
 -edge research and technology in Ophthalmology.\n 	Identify (appropriately
 ) subsets of patients who may benefit from new treatment paradigms\, diagn
 ostic testing\, or surgical interventions.\n 	Develop a differential diagn
 osis for a refractive surprise\n 	Understand the leading factors which pre
 dict an individual’s health outcomes\n 	Examine the barriers to achievin
 g eye health equity\; propose approaches for health equity\n 	Review commo
 n biases in medical decision making\n 	Recommend methods to prevent cognit
 ive bias\n 	Incorporate new treatment paradigms\, diagnostic approaches\, 
 and surgical techniques into current clinical practice.\n 	Review the stru
 cture and evolution of the DRCR Retina Network.\n 	Present the most import
 ant clinical trials the Network has performed over the last two decades.\n
  	Review clinical trial methodology\, how we select trials\, and why we so
 metimes choose not to do a trial.\n 	Address the scope of the problem of s
 evere glaucoma.\n 	Review\, modify\, and hone surgical skills and approach
 es to specific eye problems and clinical situations.\n 	Develop strategies
  to identify and address their own individual professional practice gaps.\
 n 	Gain an understanding of the diagnostic process and the significance of
  diagnostic error.\n 	Document care in a timely manner\, including the tho
 ught process underlying management of various situations\, such as ruling
