ACMS is pleased to announce the compilation of a history of medicine in Allegheny County that will be published as a fully illustrated and informative account of the individuals and programs that have shaped the profession and practice of medicine in our community.
The ACMS Board of Directors has endorsed Legacy Publishing Company, of Birmingham, Alabama, to publish the book. Legacy specializes in publishing medical history books and has a twenty-year history of producing books such as “Memphis Medicine” and “Florida’s Pioneer Medical Society.”
This will be the first comprehensive history of our medical community, building upon individual hospital histories and the many physicians who have established a legacy of service and care to the patients they have seen in their careers. The book will feature profiles of individuals, practices, and departments that are creating those legacies of care for the future in our community. The Medical Society will review the information that will appear in the book.
Please Note: The book is a self-supporting publication. A subscription fee for the profiles of physicians and current practices will provide the financial support to publish the history. Physician participation is entirely voluntary.
We encourage you to know more about this publication and invite you to consider inclusion of your practice or department. The publisher, John Compton, will contact your office to ask if he may schedule a brief visit to share the vision for the book, looking at sample books from other communities. You may also contact John at the ACMS office, 412-321-5030, Ext. 124.
We know how busy you are, but hope you will set aside a few minutes to look at the sample publications and consider participation. It will be a a comprehensive history and commemorative book that will encompass our medical history and the many individuals who have created it, and who are defining the path for the future.
