James M. Rossetti, DO, specializes in Hematology and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. He is affiliated with Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital, specifically BMT Hematology/Oncology Associates. Dr. Rossetti attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and served his residency at St. Francis Medical Center.
Several people affiliated with the Western Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) submitted nominations for Dr. Rossetti to receive the Physician Volunteer Award. Dr. Rossetti has been extensively involved with LLS since 2003, when he volunteered to speak and present an educational program while an oncology/hematology fellow with Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute. Additionally, Dr. Rossetti is an avid fundraiser for LLS, speaks at LLS events yearly, participates in Team in Training events and the Light the Night Walk, helps with the Patient Services program and joins the Race to Any Place Committee members at the WDVE radio station to promote participation in the event and share recent advances in blood cancer therapies.
He currently serves on the LLS Board of Trustees and was the first LLS board member to offer assistance in reaching out to underserved communities. His strong interest in health disparities among the minority populations particularly in the Pittsburgh area led to LLS hosting its first health disparities education program for the African American community. His passion to help the underserved has also led him to visit some of the local churches and organizations as a volunteer promoting health care equality and emphasizing local resources to help those in need.
The daughter of one of Dr. Rossetti’s cancer patients referred to him as a “hero” in her nomination letter, saying, “Dr. James Rossetti is a man that I would identify as a true hero. When I start to think of all the things that he has done for my family, his patients, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, I’m blown away by his courage and bravery to fight the demon of blood cancer.”
Dr. Rossetti will be presented the award on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at the Omni William Penn Hotel. Please plan to join us for the evening.
