ACMS Launches a Scrub Donation Drive for Dress for Success Pittsburgh

By: Sara Hussey, MBA, CAE – ACMS Executive Director

In the pursuit of success, every woman deserves to feel confident and empowered. Dress for Success Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women in their professional journeys, has been making significant strides in this regard. One unique initiative that has garnered attention and support is the donation of scrubs to help women in healthcare professions. The ACMS has joined forces with Dress for Success to launch a “Scrub Drive” during the month of December. From Dec. 1 – Dec. 31, the ACMS will collect new or gently used scrubs that will be donated to Dress for Success.

As most of our ACMS members know, many of the positions in healthcare are predominantly composed of women. These positions include physicians, nurses, medical assistants, technicians, and other healthcare professionals. Unfortunately, not all employees have the means to invest in a variety of scrubs, especially when starting their careers. This is where a scrub donation drive comes into play. By providing gently used or new scrubs to women in healthcare, the organization ensures that financial constraints do not hinder their professional growth.

Tanya Vokes, CEO at Dress for Success, says: “Medical scrubs are one of the items we often run out of and need to purchase for women who are starting new jobs/training programs in the healthcare industry. We’ve experienced some funding loss this year related to the state budget so we’re relying on donations more heavily than ever as a result.”

Empowerment goes beyond just providing clothing. It’s about fostering a sense of community, support, and recognition. When these women feel good about themselves, it positively impacts their performance, job satisfaction, and overall well-being.

The heart of Dress for Success lies in its donors and supporters. Those who contribute scrubs to the cause directly contribute to the success stories of women in healthcare. Your gently used or new scrubs become a symbol of solidarity. Speaking of solidarity, this is an opportunity the hospital systems in Allegheny County to come together for a common cause. We would love the support of all hospital systems and all local physicians!
