The Pennsylvania Department of Health recently announced that the Health Alert Network (PA-HAN) will be moving to a new platform, and providers must register by August 28, 2026 to avoid missing any health alerts and advisories. Both current and new users must register with the new platform. People who do not register with the new platform will not receive future health alert network messages after September 8.
These valuable messages provide timely information on important public health issues including emergencies, disease outbreaks, drug shortages, medical device shortages and recalls. Messages include clear patient care, laboratory testing, and disease reporting guidance.
Recent examples include PA-HAN 833, which characterized the current cyclosporiasis outbreak and PA-HAN 831, which contained MMR vaccination recommendations in the context of current measles outbreak activity.
Healthcare providers are encouraged to join the Health Alert Network
Protecting the public’s health requires a coordinated effort between public health agencies, healthcare personnel, healthcare providers, health systems, emergency management officials, and community-based organizations.
